NEWS| India's Jet Airways Cleared for Takeoff

India's Jet Airways announced today it has received regulatory clearance from China and will begin its daily San Francisco-Shanghai-Mumbia service June 14.
The one-way introductory fare hasn't been set yet, but could be around $700-$750 to Mumbai, and $550-$600 to Shanghai.

NEWS| Plane starts moving without closing door

Air India’s pre-dawn flight AI 640 from Mumbai to Chennai was delayed by five hours on Thursday after a door of the Airbus 320 was damaged in a freak accident. The flight, whose scheduled departure time was 3:15am, was already late by an hour when the incident occurred.

NEWS| Kansagra family in parleys to sell SpiceJet stake

Spice Jet

The London-based Kansagras, promoters of SpiceJet Ltd, who have around 13% stake in the budget airline, are looking to exit.

According to sources, Bhupendra Kansagra, who, along with his family, holds the stake through family firm Royal Holdings Services Ltd, is scouting for a buyer and has initiated talks with "several interested parties."

NEWS| Lufthansa rolls out its India plans for 2008


Lufthansa German Airlines announced its expansion plans for India at a press conference in Mumbai earlier today. The airline, which had announced the introduction of Pune as a new destination last month is planning to operate six flights a week on the Pune-Frankfurt route starting from July 1, 2008. The route will be serviced by an Airbus A319, offering 48 seats in an all Business Class configuration.

Jet Airways Ltd, India's top carrier by market share, said Wednesday it plans to expand its fleet by 40 per cent to 117 planes in the next three years.

NEWS| A handful of fliers in domestic skies

No-frills, budget airlines seem to have lost their lure. Many domestic airlines have had shorter check-in queues and empty seats between January and March, traditionally the peak season for honeymooners.

The last three months have seen a dip in domestic bookings in comparison to the same period last year. The industry expects domestic travel to grow by 25 per cent in 2008 but the first quarter has seen a meagre 10 per cent rise.
