BA says India is 2nd largest market

British Airways has identified India as the second largest market after the US in volume terms and the third after Australia in terms of its revenue share.

Since last two year, the premiere airline has increased its weekly flights to Indian destinations from 19 to 43 flights.

Robbie Baird, BA's area general manager for the Asia-Pacific Region emphasised the company's plans to stay big in India. He indicated that large planes like Airbus A-380, or the long haul Boeing B-787s could be introduced in the Indian sector in next 4-5 years depending upon the demand growth.

Baird mentioned that the airline's policy was to consolidate and then expand on the existing network.

HERE IS A SPECIAL TREAT FOR OUR READERS

We have a quick interview with someone who worked with Oberois.
I asked him what the interview is all about & what could you do to succeed!

Read on....

Prabhjot, catches up with Divyansh Kaushik, on what it takes to get thru the Oberoi Interviews.

pb: Thank you for doing this Div. I cannot tell you the number of requests I get from people wanting to work with The Oberois. They have all heard of these 'campus legends' if I may, about how its so difficult to make it and that there are seven or more rounds. is it true?

Div: Yes, it is little tough to get thru an Oberoi interview. Number of rounds solely depends on the no. of applications received. But if one has the passion for the company and has teh right attitude, he or she can easily see thru these interviews.

pb: What would be the three things people can start doing today, if they wanted to make the cut?

Div: First one should know about the Oberoi Hotels and Resorts well. He or she should know the company's profile, its various businesses and the latest happenings in the company.
Second is going to be the technical plethora. You need to have an aptitude for the department you want to work in. The technical know -how of the area of interest is must.
Third is the general awareness and the latest happenings one needs to be intact with.
Apart from the above three, one must have a pleasing personality. excellent communication skills and good grooming standards.

pb: take me through all the rounds? what happens in each of them?

Div: Generally the first round is a Group Discussion wherein the topics generally revolve around the current happenings of world.

Second round is the personal presentation conducted by the H.R. Manager. A good personal introduction complemented with a nice professional attire is the key here.

Third round is all about the technical aspects about the concerned department as well as the other operational departments of the hotel. The panel here includes the H.O.D.

Fourth round is with the General Manager of an Oberoi Hotel. It consists of a wide range of questions from political, sports, technical and other arenas.

The above four rounds get you through OCER i.e. Oberoi Central Employment Register or precisely you become an Operations Assistant.

The next four rounds are more stern and they form part of the OCLD selection process and place you as a management trainee with Oberoi Hotels & Resorts.

KNOW| Going gets tougher for airlines

Dark clouds seem to be looming large for domestic airlines as equity funding becomes difficult to find. Input costs are mounting, even as the airlines try to expand and consolidate at the same time.

The result is a fall in return on capital, and it is not surprising that private equity players and strategic investors are steering clear of taking an equity exposure to the business. Industry officials said most carriers operating domestically are still in need of funds to pay for increasing working capital requirements.

We asked this last week and may I say thank you to the ones who were honest!!

The time I have spent in the industry and now that I am recruiter, I must say, the actual number is much higher than the 27% that has come up here.

My only suggestion & take away from this is.. be creative with your resume, just don't lie outright.

If you do, do it, don't get caught!

Cheers!

Jammu airport to be made an international one

With the upgradation of the facilities and services in a phased manner, the Jammu airport would soon be converted into an international airport, Jammu divisional commissioner Sudhanshu Pandey said on Tuesday.

"Under the upgradation plans, the runway would be extended by another 1,300 feet towards the direction of Tawi,'' Mr Pandey said, who presided over a meeting of officials from Airport Authority of India, the army, the Air Force and civil administration h ere yesterday.

Modalities will be worked out to transfer land belonging to army and civil structures to Airport Authority of India (AII), he added. Separate parking space for incoming and outgoing passengers would be created.

"This would be done by extending the existing one and constructing a new parking lot in the vicinity,'' he said. Keeping in view the security of passengers, a gate would be erected on the front side of the airport.

Deccan to leave metro routes for Kingfisher

In a bid to wipe off red ink from its balance sheet, India’s largest budget carrier, Air Deccan, is planning to withdraw from all loss-making routes. The new strategy being scripted for the Bangalore-based carrier following its takeover by Vijay Mallya’s UB Group positions it on non-metro routes. The metro routes would be the focus of Kingfisher with its premium full-service model, aiming at improved revenues.
Air Deccan may also reduce frequency on routes like Delhi-Bangalore. At the same time, Kingfisher is expected to go all out on busy sectors like Delhi-Mumbai and Delhi-Bangalore.

According to industry sources, Mr Mallya held a meeting on Monday with Kingfisher and Air Deccan officials and reviewed the route rationalisation process being carried on by the two airlines. He stressed that both ailines should have their focus clearly defined rather than competing with each other. Mr Mallya’s UB Group acquired 26% stake in Air Deccan for Rs 550 crore in June this year.

Rebranding of Air Deccan is likely to take effect from October 15, the sources said.
