Buy and sell a better career

This is an article by David Maida

I am only listing here the parts that I think are valid & important.

>"In this day and age a candidate really should be looking for a recruiter who's going to be pro-active for them and not just wait for job opportunities to come to them but actively work on their behalf to find them the right role."

>The individual consultant you're dealing with can have the biggest impact on your recruitment experience. Ask the right questions.

>There is no limit to the number of recruitment firms someone can enlist in their job search but there can be drawbacks for overdoing it.
"There are candidates today who are sending out their CVs to multiple agencies and sometimes for the same role or different roles and they forget the contact that they've had or which job they've applied for."

SpiceJet Aircraft makes emergency landing

Over 119 passengers were stranded for hours after a Spice Jet flight in which they were travelling landed under emergency conditions at the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport in Begumpet early on Thursday after it developed a technical snag mid-air.

The pilot of the Boeing 391 Hyderabad-Ahmedabad-Jaipur flight detected a technical glitch minutes after it took off from the runway around 6 a.m. and landed safely as staffers were kept on standby. All the passengers on board were safe. The aircraft was later towed to the taxiway for a thorough inspection.

Spice Jet spokesperson Ajay Jasra said a separate flight was arranged and passengers shifted to their respective destinations at 11.30 a.m. Passengers argued with the staff in the airport for not providing information on flight departure as cancellation .

Airport Director R. K. Singla said the incident occurred when the flight was about to take off from the runway. “We don’t know the technical problems that led to the delay,” he added.

Asian no-frills airlines woo fliers from south India

South-East Asian airlines are getting more aggressive. Value carriers, such as Nok Air, AirAsia, Tiger Airways and Lion Air, have either started betting big on destinations in south India or are planning to do so. The airlines are not only offering low fares, but also packages such as night stays in Bangkok and Kuala Lumpur to lure travellers.

In its bid to have a bigger slice of the pie, Singapore-based Tiger Airways plans to link the island nation with Chennai and Kochi from October. The airline would offer a return ticket on these routes for about Rs 10,000, about 50-70% less than the normal fares. Air Asia is also planning to start services between Kuala Lumpur and Kochi and Bangalore.

Nok Air passengers get as much as 70% discounts at retail outlets in Thailand.
An Indian delegation led by civil aviation secretary Ashok Chawla recently signed an MoU with Malaysia to further increase air frequency between the two countries. According to the MoU, both the nations have agreed to designate any airlines they wish to operate on the India-Malaysia route.

Mallya may go for total majority in Deccan

UB Group could strengthen its position in Air Deccan by raising its stake in the low cost carrier to 51% in the next few months—making the price warrior a subsidiary company of the group.

The Bangalore-based liquor conglomerate, which runs Kingfisher Airlines, bought a 26% stake in Air Deccan in early June and is on schedule to make an open offer for 20% more that opens next week. Besides this, sources say, other investors are willing to sell about 4-5% stake, taking the UB group holding up to 51%.

An absolute majority will enable the Kingfisher group to take major decisions to synergise operations of the two carriers. Airline sources said, one of the major decisions is expected to be in respect to whether the Air Deccan brand will be retained for future operations.

Asked about it, Kingfisher chairman Vijay Mallya said a decision on the issue will be taken only after a formal market evaluation.

Lufthansa in talks with Taj, credit card firm

Identifying India as a potential market, German airline major Lufthansa is in talks with the Taj Group for integrating the airline's frequent-flyer programme, Miles and More. The air carrier, which currently operates 47 flights a week, is also planning to tie up with a credit card service provider to integrate the Miles and More programme.

An announcement in this regard is likely to take place in India next month (August).
Andreas Bierwirth, vice-president, marketing, Lufthansa, said the airline was in talks with Tata-controlled Taj Group to partner with its frequent-flyer programme.

The deal with a credit card service provider will mean that a Lufthansa passenger, who is a frequent flyer, can secure miles for the money he spends through that particular card.
In the case of Taj Hotels, passengers will earn more miles if they stay more in the group's hotels.
Lufthansa, which is looking at enhancing flights from Indian destinations to Europe, is also planning to increase the advertisement spend in India.

SpiceJet Registers Robust Growth of 121%

SpiceJet Limited has announced its audited results for Financial Period FY 06-07 covering performance of 10 months from 1 Jun'06 to 31 Mar'07. Total revenues for the period registered a robust growth of 121% at Rs 748 crores versus Rs 339 crores for comparable period of 10 months of previous financial year, (Rs. 453 crores in 12 months of FY 05-06). The company will henceforth follow the tax fiscal year of April-March.
On operating levels, the company reported an income of Rs. 640 crores and operating expenses of Rs. 659 crores in spite of the fact that the reporting period does not include two peak travel months of April and May.
The company has taken a conservative approach and adopted changes in accounting policies for certain capitalized / deferred items which have been now written off. But for these, the net loss would have been lower by Rs 5.4 crores.
During the reporting period, the company has doubled its average deployed fleet to 8.17 aircrafts versus 4.08 aircrafts for comparable previous year. As of today the company operates 11 aircrafts to 14 destinations. The number of passengers flown has also increased by 95% to 2.61 million compared to 1.34 million in comparable previous period.
The company has managed to improve the Net Revenue / passenger to Rs 2320 from Rs 2209 in comparable previous year.
While announcing the results Partha Sarathi Basu, CFO SpiceJet said that "Spicejet will be adding 8 more aircrafts to its fleet during the current year. The expanded capacity will deliver its potential business during the current year through growth in passenger numbers. With continued focus on cost and improved yields the company targets to achieve Break Even during the current financial year."
