Jet Airways Signs Agreement with Travelocity For Hotel Bookings

Jet Airways, India's premier airline, and Travelocity, a global leader in online travel, today announced an exclusive travel agreement, which will lead to Travelocity's highly successful hotel offerings being available through the Jet Airways website. This agreement will enable travellers to book hotels in India via the highly successful Jet Airways website: 'Jetairways.com'.

This hotel booking service, leveraging Travelocity's proprietary data base of hotels, will complement the enhanced air booking engine on Jetairways.com, which attracts over 1.25 million visitors per month.

The agreement between India's premier airline and the sixth largest travel agency in the US represents an innovative and first-to-market initiative for Jet Airways to offer real-time hotel bookings online, in conjunction with Travelocity. This comes as part of Jet Airway's growing commitment to offer customers more-than-air on its enhanced web site.

This also marks the first Travelocity Partner Network relationship announced in India, and it follows Travelocity India's' recent launch of the
Travelocity.co.in site. The Indian travelling public will be able to access real-time online Indian hotel comparison shopping, and be able to progress to make instantly confirmed hotel bookings via Travelocity's tried and tested, secure technology via the Jet Airways site. Travellers, via the Jet Airways site, will also gain access to Travelocity's range of value-added insider information on hotels which may include background information on the hotel, photographs, real traveller reviews, ratings, interactive maps and streaming videos.

Indian hotel suppliers participating in Travelocity's 'Net Rate' hotel program can now broaden their online distribution for the first time via a major Indian airline website.

Gaurang Shetty, Vice President – Marketing, Jet Airways stated: "We are extremely pleased to be the first airline in India to embrace genuine real time online hotel bookings, and to be working with a world leader in online travel, Travelocity. Visitors to the Jet Airways site will be able to book hotels online with complete confidence, and be assured of instant booking confirmations in real-time while they are online thanks to Travelocity's behind-the-scenes innovation and choice of great hotel value and deals."

Roshan Mendis, Director of Supplier Relations and Partnerships for the Travelocity group in Asia Pacific said: "Partnerships are a very important part of Travelocity's global business. As our first Travel Partner deal in India, this new relationship represents a win-win arrangement for Jet Airways, Travelocity, hotel suppliers and Indian travellers. Our new business relationship with Jet Airways represents supplier confidence in, and a powerful endorsement of, our unparalleled hotel booking technology, range of hotels and customer service."

MDLR Airlines ready to take off on April 27

THE MDLR Airlines has finally started bookings for its flights between Chandigarh and Delhi. President of MDLR Airlines Koustav Dhar confirmed that the airlines is scheduled to start operations from the 27th of this month.

"We have started the booking of tickets for the April-27 flight from today and are getting tremendous response. We are starting with the Chandigarh-Delhi flight, and would extend it to Ranchi and then Kolkata in a phased manner," said Dhar.

Chandigarh-Delhi-Ranchi-Kolkata from May 16.

As of now, MDLR is offering very competitive prices as part of its promotional strategy till May 2.

An MDLR executive said the airline is charging Rs 2,000 for the club class while Rs 1,000 is being charged for the economy class. This is inclusive of taxes.

The prices seem to be attracting customers in droves and, according to sources, its morning flight to Delhi on April 30 is already fully booked.

MDLR Airlines would operate six days a week with no services on Sunday.

The airline is using Jet AVRO - RJ 70 planes that have seating capacity of 70 passengers.

With the suspension of Indus Airways operations, MDLR is expected to receive a tremendous response. Theother factor that goes in the favour of MDLR Airlines is the morning time slot.

"We have a morning flight at 7.30 am from Chandigarh to Delhi and a return flight from Delhi to Chandigarh is scheduled for 6 pm with its arrival here scheduled at 6.40 pm. This makes it convenient for anyone to return home after a day's work in Delhi and we are sure that this would be the USP of our airline," said an MDLR official.

Also, unlike other airlines that operate here and are based in Delhi, MDLR Airlines aircrafts would be parked at the Chandigarh airport in night.

MDLR is also marketing itself as the region's own airline since the company's owner Gopal K Goel, Chairman and Managing Director, MDLR Airlines hails from Sirsa, Haryana.

Itinerary
* Flight No. 171 takes off from Chandigarh at 7.30 am and reaches Delhi at 8.10 am
* Flight No. 172 takes off from Delhi at 6pm and reaches Chandigarh at 6.40 pm
* Fare for business class: Rs 2,000
* Fare for economy class: Rs 1,000

Airline to Offer Hotel Bookings in India

Travelers will now be able to book hotels in India through the Web site of a private carrier, Jet Airways, following its agreement with a key U.S.-based travel agency, the airline said in a statement Monday.

Jet Airways will use Travelocity's proprietary data base of hotels to complement its air booking engine on Jetairways.com, which attracts more than 1.25 million visitors every month, the statement said.

Travelocity, based in Southlake, Texas, is the sixth largest travel agency in the United States.

Travelocity has been adding Indian hotels to its 'Net Rate' hotel program, comprising more than 30,000 hotels, since May 2006.

Jet Airways, with a fleet of 62 aircraft, operates more than 340 daily flights to 50 destinations in India and abroad, including London, Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Colombo, Bangkok and Katmandu.

It plans to extend its international operations to North America, Europe, Africa and Asia in coming years.

Her Royal Highness presented the coveted Spirit of Flight trophy for Airline of the Year to British Airways CEO, Willie Walsh. British Airways also picked up awards as Best Transatlantic Airline, Best Europe-Asia/Australasia Airline, and best airline based in Western Europe , and was shortlisted in three other categories.

British Airways last won the OAG Airline of the Year Award back in 1988 and now ties with Singapore and Virgin Atlantic in having won the title on five separate occasions since the inception of the awards in 1982.

"[bilde]"
Kilde: Luis Rosa
- British Airways performed solidly in just about every category it was eligible for," says Alan Glass, CEO of OAG in a pressinfo. "The people that matter, the world's frequent fliers, made it very clear in the way they voted that they like what BA is offering them. British Airways is a very worthy recipient of this year's OAG Airline of the Year Award."

Other multiple winners on the night were Continental Airlines and Singapore Airlines. Continental Airlines retained the "Best Business Class" title for a fifth successive year as well as being voted best airline in North America for a fourth consecutive year – just pipping American Airlines who were commended. Singapore Airlines retained "Best International First Class" and was voted the best airline in Asia . Last year's Airline of the Year, Cathay Pacific, retained its crown as "Best Transpacific Airline".

Reflecting the global reach of the OAG awards, regional winners on the night for best airline included Singapore Airlines (Asia), Qantas (Australasia / Pacific), Continental Airlines (North America), Aeromexico (Central/South America and the Caribbean), Emirates (Middle East/Indian Sub-Continent), South African Airways (Africa), British Airways (Western Europe), and CSA Czech Airlines (Central/Eastern Europe). All the regional winners were eligible for "Airline of the Year."

Seoul Incheon International fought off extremely stiff competition to win the " Best Airport " crown. It just edged out last year's winner Singapore Changi which was commended, and also beat Amsterdam Schiphol, Dubai International, New York JFK and San Francisco International. Korea was a double winner with Korean Air, shortlisted for the first time this year, winning "Best Economy Class".

JetBlue won Best Low Cost/No Frills Airline for the second time, beating AirAsia, bmibaby, easyJet, Southwest Airlines and Virgin Blue.

"OAG's worldwide customer and subscriber base have spoken and voted in record numbers this year," adds Duncan Alexander, managing director at OAG. " A total of 42 different airlines received nominations this year in 15 regional and global categories. As in previous years the results have thrown up some interesting surprises as well as some perennial favourites. On behalf of OAG and its customers, we congratulate all the winners and nominees for representing the very best in global air travel."

Lifetime Achievement Award

EasyJet founder, Sir Stelios Haji-Ioannou, was presented with this year's Lifetime Achievement Award by HRH The Princess Royal. His Lifetime Achievement Award recognised the impact that EasyJet and the easyGroup had made on the European aviation and travel scene. Alan Glass praised Stelios for his remarkable entrepreneurial achievements in a comparatively short 'lifetime'.

Outstanding Service Award

The recipient of the Outstanding Service Award was Maria Sabbah, BMED sales manager in Lebanon . The award recognised her dedication and inspiring leadership during the aftermath of the air attacks on Beirut and its international airport. Maria, who received her award from BMED CEO, David Richardson, helped hundreds of stranded passengers from all airlines to find their way home safely from Lebanon .

During the award ceremony, which was hosted by sports broadcaster Steve Rider, the CEO of Visit London, James Bidwell, took the stage to welcome the gathered airline and travel industry executives to London. He told them that air travel was vital to the city and the UK's continued prosperity, as well as its position as an international economic hub. He recognised, however, the need to balance the economic importance of tourism with measures to improve the sustainability of the city and looked forward to working with the airlines.

The annual "OAG Airline of the Year Awards" celebrates the very best in global air travel and publicly recognises the highest standards within the industry. The Awards are in association with TravelPlus; Le Royal Hotels was the Official Sponsor of the event, and Boeing was the champagne reception sponsor.

A day in the life of a flight attendant

A day in the life of a flight attendant by David Silverstein
A day on the job. For a flight attendant that could mean...a trip to Paris...or an emergency landing. It can be fun, an adventure, or both...but is it work? I’ve found that working for a major airline this past year has been one of the hardest jobs I have ever had, and yet one of the most enjoyable.
